Call for Applications: Provost's Postdoctoral Fellowship for Indigenous and Black Researchers

From

To
¹û½´ÊÓƵ Faculty
Date:

We are pleased to announce that ¹û½´ÊÓƵ will be participating in two University of Toronto postdoctoral fellowship programs this year: the Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, which has been running since 2019, and the new Research Excellence Postdoctoral Fellows Program (regarding which additional information will be shared in January, 2026). Both programs, which provide successful postdoctoral fellows with an annual salary of $80,000 and research funding of $10,000, offer opportunities to bring diverse, excellent scholars to ¹û½´ÊÓƵ, and align with core priorities in our new Academic Plan.

At the moment, I would like to draw your attention to the call for applications for the Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship, which is now underway. The Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship program provides funding to increase opportunities for hiring postdoctoral fellows from underrepresented groups, specifically researchers who identify as Black and/or Indigenous to Turtle Island. These fellowships will enable postdoctoral researchers to grow their scholarly profiles, undertake academic work at the University of Toronto, and strengthen our research environment with diverse perspectives. Identifying and supporting exceptional emerging Black and Indigenous scholars for this award is consistent with ¹û½´ÊÓƵ’s commitment to research excellence and to increasing the diversity of our academic community.

A successful nomination for this competitive award will depend on the efforts of our excellent faculty. We are asking you to get the word out as widely as possible to relevant contacts and networks, and to consider supporting high quality applicants who reach out to you with requests to serve as their supervisor. This important opportunity relies on ¹û½´ÊÓƵ faculty members to submit applications to ¹û½´ÊÓƵ Research by March 2, 2026 to recommend exceptional students or graduates (from any institution) for nomination to the UofT competition. Further information and procedures for faculty members who would like to recommend and supervise an applicant can be found here

Getting the word out to your communities is essential for alerting and attracting strong students/graduates to this opportunity, so please consider reaching out to your colleagues and networks. Immediately below this message is a brief communication about the program that we hope you will use/personalize and send to your colleagues, encouraging them to let you know about excellent students/graduates they think would be strong applicants for this program. It would also be very helpful for you to let us know at oise.research@utoronto.ca of the colleagues, communities, and/or networks to which you have sent this call.

Thank you for your help in spreading the word about this exciting opportunity!
